THREAD ON READING HABITS: This is a non-negotiable habit for a leader, IMO. Here’s my 2020 reading list. Title, author, gut-reaction theme. I recommend them all bc I stop reading books I don’t find interesting. Here are some ways I make reading a habit. I hope it helps. 1/6
E-BOOKS! I read almost exclusively on iBooks. Why? It’s always with me (ipad mostly, but iphone in a pinch). I can always highlight the book. I can always make a note. I can share it via text or tweet. I learn or process best when I share. 2/6
READ EVERY MORNING: I have a mantra of #neverMiss the important things. This includes reading every morning. Read 2 pages. Read 2 chapters. Doesn’t matter. Read every morning. THAT matters. 3/6
READ ALMOST EVERY NIGHT: I keep my iPad on my nightstand. It’s right there. All the time. I grab it and read a little on most nights. I sleep better when I read before going to sleep too. It has a way of unwinding my brain. 4/6
READ AT LUNCH: I’m not as committed to this habit as the others. However, it is not unusual to grab my phone, prop it up, and read a quick chapter while eating my lunch. The point is iBooks are always w me so I take advantage. 5/6
THE POINT: Out attn span is shortening in 2020. Focus is a valuable commodity. Reading (never mind all of the other benefits of learning) is a great way to focus and rejuvenate the brain. Paper, electronic, stone tablet, etc. Your choice. I hope you’ll read more in 2021. 6/6
