Yesterday night, I did one of the counseling sessions I don't derive joy doing.
She came in with complaints of weakness, poor appetite, weight loss, & a history of blood transfusion 3 weeks prior, for PCV of 16% (blood level),

She came in with complaints of weakness, poor appetite, weight loss, & a history of blood transfusion 3 weeks prior, for PCV of 16% (blood level),
for which she was transfused with 3 units of blood somewhere else.
On Examination she was chronically ill looking & pale
I made a diagnosis of Chronic Anaemia ?cause
While still interacting with the primary patient Mrs B, the husband called me, Doc; this our child has been having

recurrent fever since birth what can cause it, I listed a few for him. He was febrile, with this striking mix hyper and hypo pigmented malar rash on the face.
So for him I went with a diagnosis of Sepsis focus skin infections kiv SLE (I know what ur thinking)

Investigations.
Minutes later I was informed that Mrs B was HIV positive
. I requested for same screening on the son, I was heart broken when it came out Positive also
So it's time to break the news, I had to invite the woman alone without her husband, for confidentiality sake

at the end she broke down in tears and asked I call her husband in. The husband came in & after breaking the news he consoled the wife and asked me if he can be tested right away. I collected the sample immediately, sent it to lab.
Minutes later I stepped out to get the result,

I was told its HIV Negative, but wants to repeat it again with serum. I said please do. "not that I wanted it to be positive but then I expected it to be positive"
To my greatest surprise it came out again to be Negative. Let's not get into how it was possible, but here comes my

But I did my best. In the end I was glad at how the husband took it, Hugged her wife and told her, "Baby we are in this together
, Doctor can I be collecting her drugs for her?" I said yes, but she needs
