This year has been a year of immense personal growth.

Here is a thread with some of my reflections.
Let me just preface this with the fact that I used to be a "nobody".

I had less than 50 followers in June, and I just crossed 5,000 followers today.

Big things can happen in short amount of time if you work hard & smart, and be kind in the whole process.
1/ Always follow your curiosity

Rabbit holes are great. They've led me to discover no-code, newsletters and the maker life.

Follow threads that interest you till there is no longer any string left to pull. Dive in deep.

Ask good questions.
Read. Tinker. Experiment. Learn.
2/ When life punches you hard, learn the art of the counterpunch

"In life, every difficulty carries with it a corresponding opportunity of equal size." - @jonmorrow

Learn how to turn your pain into victories. Train yourself to spot openings in tough situations.
3/ Underdogs can win

All they need to do is to exhibit deep grit & resilience.

You don't have to be an "insider" to succeed. Just put in the effort.

Underdogs don't think "I can't". They think, "I'm going to prove I can" - @jamierusso
4/ Consistency

Most people forget that pros are just amateurs that kept on trying.

Don't bet against the power of compounding that comes from consistently working towards your goals.
5/ Overdeliver

The best way to impress others is to overdeliver on what's expected of you.

You'll get your biggest fans by creating stuff & doing things that help others:
- Save time
- Get smarter
- Make money
- Learn something new

Also, talk is cheap. Actions are everything.
6/ Don't lurk. Be a part of the conversation

I used to lurk on Twitter & @indiehackers because I didn't think I had anything valuable to share

Once I started sharing, I realized that my words inspire & help people

"What's obvious to you might be amazing for others" @sivers
7/ Increase your luck surface area

Your luck surface area = Action you take around your passion x Number of people you communicate it to

Don't wait for magic to happen and luck to find you.

Create more, share more and you'll attract like-minded folks into your orbit
8/ Take time to connect with people who are doing interesting things

The DMs on Twitter are magical.

Reach out to people, get to know what they're working on and find ways to help each other & grow together.

That's how some of my best new friendships have started this year.
9/ Community is crucial

You probably can't get very far on your own. Seek out a trusted group of friends that will cheer you up on tough days, and celebrate every milestone with you.

The people you surround yourself with influence you more than you know. Choose wisely.
10/ Haters can be a blessing

If someone is jealous of you & says mean things, know that dozens of others have your back.

Experienced my first online hater this year. The outpouring of love that followed astounded me. https://twitter.com/JanelSGM/status/1314243943576547328?s=20
11/ Start something new

Start something. Start anything. Start a side project, a newsletter, or create a simple website.

Ideas & skills improve over time.

Don't let fears of failure paralyze you - it's never perfect the first time. You'll learn so much by just trying.
12/ Think less, do more

Spend less time strategizing and more time taking action. Even if you think you're not ready to release something, just do it.

Start and make adjustments along the way.

Iteration > Procrastination
13/ Build In Public - Why?

There are so many benefits.
- Build an audience
- Get feedback on your ideas
- Inspire & help others
- Increase your luck surface area
14/ Build In Public - How?

- Share what you're working on
- Publish meaningful statistics
- Show people how you built things
- Highlight what worked
- Encourage conversations
- Engage with your followers
- Be authentic, don't be a bot
15/ There is no lack of ideas & opportunities around

All the best ideas are NOT taken.

You just need to know where to look. Spend time in communities you love and listen closely for pain points.

Build things to solve for these pain points.
16/ No-code has democratized creation forever

Have a lot of ideas and don't know where to start? No-code is now helping ambitious builders create the businesses of their dreams.

Learn how to use a few apps & start bringing your ideas to life.
16/ In an age of information overload, curated content will be increasingly important

That's where newsletters come in. They're the new mixtapes of this decade.

They also create crazy amounts of leverage on the Internet for the writer.
17/ Invest in yourself

Whatever you learned in school is probably outdated. Invest time & money into paid products and communities.

You could probably cobble resources together yourself, but that takes up too much time.

Learn from the experts, improve your output & level up
18/ You are your harshest critic

The harshest judge of your work is... yourself. Just like you're kind to others, remember to be kind to yourself.

It's especially difficult if you grew up with a perfectionist streak. But let it go. It's ok to make mistakes.
19/ If you're blessed with a platform to reach out to many, make sure you use it to lift others up

Uncover hidden gems and highlight them. Give others and opportunity to showcase their work in yours.

(But of course, make sure that these match your personal bar of quality)
20/ Build once, sell twice

A valuable lesson I learned from @jackbutcher

Move away from selling your time.
Create digital assets that you can sell multiple times.

I built a profitable product that helps expand the creator economy this year. Can't wait to create more in 2021
21/ Always aim to be a better version of yourself each day.

You write your own story.
You get what you put in.
Never stop learning and growing!

Have a fab year ahead!
