First, if youâve followed me for awhile, you know I am big into travel.
Huge outdoors guy, love the mountains, hiking, camping, boating, you name it.

Sometimes I question though where am I at my happiest.
I love my job, make a decent living, am able to invest a good amount, low COL lifestyle, and Iâm able to travel rather frequently which is my passion.
When I travel, chances are I'm heading to the mountains.

Why donât I just move to the mountains so I could enjoy these activities every weekend vs. only on these select vacations a few times a year?

On a recent trip to the Cascade Mountains in Washington
Enjoying a typical activity of White Water Rafting that I often do on these mountain trips, I was paired with a rafting guide who had clearly thought thru this.
Young guy, but wise beyond his years...
Enjoying a typical activity of White Water Rafting that I often do on these mountain trips, I was paired with a rafting guide who had clearly thought thru this.
Young guy, but wise beyond his years...
He said..."I could live elsewhere, work another job that pays more money to afford me the ability to buy vacations to come here to do what I love. Or, I can just live here and get paid less and live out my dream every day."
His dream was to be on a boat & enjoy all that the mountains had to offer.
He could buy a boat, but why would he do that and spend ~$10K+ of his own money when he could just work for the company and get a free boat he could take out whenever he wanted?

Hearing him talk about his lifestyle, it was anything but ârichâ in monetary terms.
But that guy is wealthy as ever when it comes to living a life of happiness and having inner peace.

He joked of âliving in a shackâ alongside his other rafting guides, the lifestyle of working a few rafting trips each day, partying at night, making little to no money outside of tips, etc.
But you know what?
He was incredibly happy.

He was in the mountains, on the river every day, hanging with his best friends each summer.
He was also able to work for himself thru an online business as a side hustle in his spare time, and got to be a snowboard instructor in the winter to keep busy.

Is he going to retire with millions in the bank? Odds are it probably depends on his side businesses 
, but do you think that will be top of mind for him when heâs on his death bed?
Not a chance.
There is more to life than money.

The lesson in all of this?
It is so important to strike a balance between your financial goals, being happy, and living your life to the fullest.
Donât work your entire life to retire to then have fun.
Use money as a tool to aide structuring a life that you enjoy NOW.

Living life on your terms, not as society will teach you, is sure to guarantee you a life that you will NOT regret and one that will be fulfilling and eventful.
