Interesting chatter on George Springer lately, and Mets & Blue Jays clearly have serious interest. Yet it doesn’t appear that talks are in their final stages or anything (and as long as that's true there's no guarantee this is simply a 2-team race). https://twitter.com/mlbtraderumors/status/1344399679572873220
Not sure what Springer's asking price is. But the idea that he's seeking well over $150 million is perhaps more surprising than it should be.
Rendon got 7*35 last year. Springer is 31, Rendon was 29. An important distinction, but they have produced similar value...

Rendon with Nationals
Career: 29.1 WAR, 127 OPS+
2 years before FA: .960 OPS, 147 OPS+, 5.9 WAR/650 PA
Springer with Astros
Career: 27.5 WAR, 131 OPS+
2 years before FA: .953 OPS, 147 OPS+, 7.2 WAR/650 PA

So, pretty similar. Beyond being younger, Rendon obviously hit the market at a better time. But if Springer is asking for an AAV of $30+ million (& again, I don't know those details) it would hardly be unreasonable. Whether someone like the Mets or Jays agrees is now the question
Anyways, @ShiDavidi sheds lots of light on the Jays, Springer, Darvish etc. so would recommend reading that. Happy New Year! https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/blue-jays-faq-hasnt-toronto-made-blockbuster-move-yet/
