Semi-coherent rant re: Lots of ethnic vs racial vs national discrimination discourse this past week: It reminds me that you’d dead a lot of bad convos where people try to badly conflate ethnic, religious, national and racial discrimination if you just talk about anti-Blackness
(Which tbh is the metric y’all be measuring with and is what you mean to discuss more times than not anyways)
I’m not saying EVERY marginal status or convo is about anti-Blackness, but every convo and context is inextricable from an anti-Black world
And there’s no conflating the other types of discriminations with anti-Blackness bc Black people exist everywhere globally and can be of any marginal status, and anti-Blackness informs the treatment of all marginal peoples
All types of discrimination are of importance to combat, but global, colonial structures don’t disappear because of specific dynamics that might be found on a smaller scale within a nation or peoples, the macro structures dictate and inform those discriminations
And all those discriminations are fought the same way as well. So while one must take care with how to talk about different groups’ histories with oppression and state/national/colonial violence even among Black/African ppl globally, there’s really just a few very clear solutions
I see ppl esp getting this shit messed up when referring to groups like the Sami, Irish Travellers, Romani, etc. And getting mad @ Black ppl for the meta structures that don’t afford them the nuance of identity they think is their right but something we forfeit bc of slavery

I just saw some weird dog-piling on Irish twitter towards Black ppl under the guise of “U yanks love to project UR RACIAL STRUCTURES ON US ACROSS THE WORLD” and now a cop in Ireland shot a Black mentally ill man
like

You can name that someone might be misunderstood about a certain dynamic within your nation but you won’t lie and act like anti-Blackness does not exist where you’re at, esp when yr being anti-Black in how you tell them that LOL
