Let me be real for a second. I see a lot of whining from artists struggling to make sales.

What do I also see from these artists?

- no clear pricing strategy
- no storytelling
- no plan for adding value to collectors
- lackluster social content/marketing

Let’s continue 👇🏼
These folks will be quick to bemoan a broken system and give up, before they will change their approach.

How sad! Genuinely makes me sad.

Yes, in art there is a tendency towards kings and kingmakers. So knowing that, you have two choices.

Remain a peasant, or be a King.
You are unlikely to change the inherent nature of popular trends and popular artists in this profession.

There will always be artists with big names. They will always sell for top dollar.

But don’t for a second think things aren’t more equitable here compared to legacy art.
In this world:

- your gallery fees are less
- barrier to entry is lower
- AND you can profit off secondary

In those three ways alone it’s a million times more equitable and plural than the legacy art world.

So STOP crying. Do something about your success.
Here are things you can do that are more valuable than crying about sales.

- study the market
- try and predict the next trend, (maybe it’s 3D generative who knows)
- reduce your supply. Don’t flood the market with your art
- diversify income streams. Don’t over rely on art.
- actually put work in on the storytelling of your pieces
- invest in books on using social media effectively
- read other books on art to expand your style and skill
- NETWORK WITH COLLECTORS. Few of you spend enough time networking
- don’t shill. Sell. Learn the difference.
The TLDR here is that YES there is a tendency towards kings and kingmakers. But also YES this system is far more equitable than it is not. It is a huge step forward.

So the final question I ask you is simple. Do you want to be a King or not?

It is literally up to you. Peace.
