I'll sign off for 2020 with an appreciation of the wonderful @SalfordPGRs and postdoc team I work with! The year of the panic, quarantines, Lockdowns and Zoom lab meetings! Despite everything, these guys have been absolutely incredible this year! THREAD BELOW! 1/n
@ShrewlockHolmes submitted his PhD, published his first review and brilliantly guided the lab newbies post-Lockdown while wr tried to catch up with project backlogs! 2/n
@naiarasales_ as ever led our #eDNA efforts, guiding our bioinformatics from afar! She published the final paper from her PhD too! Plus, we've managed to get some more exciting neotropical eDNA work off the ground to start in 2021! 3/n
@dhika_fishery got his fieldwork completed in Indonesia, got started on his labwork and submitred his first paper from his PhD! All while welcoming a new addition to his family! 4/n
@BroadhurstHolly had loads to work disrupted by the Lockdown but managed to get a full field season done in the summer and get her first #eDNA metabarcoding on before xmas! 5/n
@JennaLavin got for her #eDNA results back from our @EssexWildlife citizen science project after an incredible effort. Jenna helped with loads of other projects and is working in COVID testing also! 6/n
@PollyLBolton managed to get her really exciting #eDNA results from a HUGE number of samples from our project with @vincentwildlife and @WildCRU_Ox on European mink reintros in northern Spain 7/n
@CodieABaxter was thrown straight in at the deep end with loads of lab training on different #eDNA projects! Codie also achieved a first class honours in her degree! 8/n
@Matthew0Donnell had to deal with his Costa Rica fieldwork being cancelled but got started with labwork and planning some mesocosm work closer to home! His FrogFriday
sessions from the museum also kept everyone sane, particularly my kids
9/n

@perks91 finished up his MRes on #eDNA monitoring of fishes in the Mersey estuary with the @mgenvtrust and has since played a big role in COVID testing in the Northwest! 10/n
@Lydia_McGill also finished up her MRes on population genomics of deep sea fishes and is now well into her PhD in Scotland on using similar techniques with managing shellfish stocks 11/n
@JMJackman27 finished up his MSc in Wildlife Conservation (with a distinction!) and did his dissertation with us on the challenges of #eDNA metabarcoding for fish monitoring in the Amazon (pre-print coming VERY soon!!) 12/n
@LukeGregory_ also finished up his MSc and got a distinction too! He worked on using #eDNA to detect differences in mammalian communities on different rivers in Essex! Luke is PhD hunting right now and is awesome! 13/n
@_Laura_Phillips got a brilliant merit in her MSc and worked with us on hybridization in invasive and native neotropical freshwater fish 14/n
And not forgetting our WIT buddies @rebecca_synnott and @ThomasCurran01 for continuing to push the boundaries of red and grey squirrel genetics/genomics and eDNA detections of mosquitos in Ireland! 15/n
