FOOTBALL MANAGER SIMULATION THREAD 👨‍💻

We’ve let #FM21 play out the next 5️⃣ years, and looked at the fate of each Championship club.

Let’s see how your club fared in the virtual world👇

#CCP
#BarnsleyFC 🔴

In 2025, the Reds made it to the promised land.

Relegated to League One under Ismael, former Oldham boss Laurent Banide took them back to the second tier and eventually, up to the Premier League through the play-offs.

(1/2)
Champions League winner Ryan Bertrand is the club’s captain, and academy product Aiden Marsh leads the line 🔥

(2/2)
#BCFC 🔵

Karanka lasted just five months, but his replacement Viktor Goncharenko turned the club around and got the Blues promoted via the play-offs in 2021.

They were relegated a year later, and Chris Wilder has since led them to two mid-table finishes.

(1/2)
The side is spearheaded by former Arsenal forward Stephy Mavididi, who has scored 39 goals in 82 games since arriving from Fulham 🔥

(2/2)
#Rovers 🔵

It was a boring five years for Blackburn. They never finished higher than 8th or lower than 16th, despite the attempts of sacked managers Tony Mowbray, Tim Flowers and Herve Renard.

Rudi Garcia is now at the helm.

(1/2)
The £15m sale of Adam Armstrong to Leeds in 2022 didn’t help - he went on to be a hit in the Premier League, whilst Rovers struggled for goals with Viktor Gyokeres as the only regular goal source.

(2/2)
#AFCB 🍒

Bournemouth’s stay in the Championship was short-lived, as they instantly bounced back to the top flight.

They’ve comfortably stayed clear of the relegation zone since, but Jason Tindall was replaced by Jesse Marsch in 2023.

(1/2)
Poor Tindall, despite enjoying success with Bournemouth, could only land a job as Assistant Manager of Brighton’s under-18s after being sacked by the Cherries. Brutal.

(2/2)
#BrenfordFC 🐝

After coming agonisingly close on multiple occasions, Brentford achieved promotion in 2024 under Barak Bachar.

However, he left the Bees for Newcastle after the title win, and they were relegated after just one season.

(1/2)
Jamie Shackleton and Matt Grimes run the midfield, but former QPR winger Paul Smyth is the star man.

15 goals and 16 assists in their promotion-winning season 🤯

(2/2)
#BristolCity 🔴

Dean Holden’s tenure was brief, but Danny Cowley made them challengers and eventually took them up.

However, instant relegation saw him replaced by AC Milan icon Filipo Inzaghi.

(1/2)
He appears to have a challenge on his hands too, as their three top scorers - Che Adams, Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo Vilca - all want to leave.

(2/2)
#CardiffCity 🔵

The Bluebirds fell into League One under Neil Harris, but rebuilt under replacement Wayne Rooney and reached the play-offs in 2025.

Rooney has moulded former Swindon striker Scott Twine into a Rooney replica, and he has netted 37 goals in two years.
#PUSB 🔵

It’s been rough. Instant relegation to League One was followed by years of steady decline, culminating in a drop to the fourth tier in 2025.

They’ve just appointed Simon Grayson, who loves a lower league promotion to be fair.
#DCFC 🐏

Derby dropped into League One in 2021 under Lee Johnson, and replacement Garry Monk failed to bring them back up.

They eventually found their man in Nigel Adkins, who sold Bird, Jozwiak and Buchanan for huge sums to help build a promotion-winning squad.

(1/2)
Naturally, he was sacked not long after getting them promoted and the Rams have now put their faith in former Chelsea man Dan Petrescu.

(2/2)
#HTAFC 🔵

It’s been a bit boring at Huddersfield. They just kept finishing in mid-table and hiring and firing managers.

Mark Bowen, Darren Moore and Juan Carlos Oliva all faced the axe after Carlos Corberan was dismissed, and they’re now managerless.
#LTFC 🎩

The Hatters moved into a brand new stadium and made big money on the sales of Mpanzu, Lockyer and Sluga, but since relegation in 2022, came nowhere near an escape from League One.

(1/2)
They have some promising regens on the books though - including an 18-year-old winger who scored 17 in the 2024/25 campaign.

(2/2)
#Boro 🔴

A new era was ushered in after Steve Gibson sold the club in 2022, but the new owner’s decision to swap Tony Mowbray for Vladimir Ivic proved costly as they slipped into League One.

(1/2)
Ciriaco Sforza, fresh from a spell with Leeds, is now tasked with restoring their Championship status.

Also, does anyone else think this bloke looks like Pochettino and Villas Boas rolled into one?

(2/2)
#Millwall 🦁

Kenny Jackett is back at his former club, after the tenures of Gary Robert and Marco Silva failed to yield promotion.

Silva did, however, manage to sign a regen from Cliftonville for 700k, and then sell him on to Bristol City for £23m.
#NCFC 🟡

The Canaries have yo-yo’d between the Premier League and Championship, with neither Daniel Farke or Gus Poyet managing to consolidate in the top flight.

Steven Gerrard now manages the club, and has a promising squad on his hands.

(1/2)
The combined value of Todd Cantwell, Tom Dele-Bashiru, Ousmane Diakite, Japhet Tanganga, Phillip Billing, Jonathan Panzo and Wilfried Zaha exceeds £200m 🤯

(2/2)
#NFFC 🔴

Chris Hughton lasted four years and took Forest back to the promised land after two, but couldn’t keep them there.

In March 2025, Patrick Vieira took over and is tasked with building on their 13th-placed finish in the 2024/25 Championship season.
#PNEFC ⚪️

The entire five years was spent stuck in the Championship and in a steady decline.

Their league position worsened year after year, and current boss Fran Escriba now has an ageing squad.

(1/2)
Bauer, Barkhuizen, Maguire, Potts and Davies all remain despite being the wrong side of 30. Kian Breckin, on loan from Man City, was their top scorer in the 2024/25 campaign with 10 goals. Grim.

(2/2)
#QPR 🔵

SEVEN MANAGERS IN FIVE YEARS.

There was turmoil at QPR, who suffered relegation to League One in 2024 and have gone through seven managers in five years.

The stature of their appointments varied, from Mikel Arteta to Andy Hessenthaler and erm, Steve Evans.

(1/2)
It’s clear to see why they’ve struggled. Much like 2012 QPR, they gave big contracts to ageing big names. 33-year-old Andros Townsend is on 17k a week in League One, and in 2025, has been banished to their U23s.

(2/2)
#ReadingFC 🔵

Reading are the only club in the Championship to still have the manager they had in 2020.

Not sure why though, because Paunovic hasn’t got them any higher than 9th.

(1/2)
Their league positions worsened after selling star man Michael Olise to Wolves for £24m, and replacing him a then 38-year-old Pablo Hernandez 🥴

(2/2)
#RUFC 🔴

You can probably guess what happened here. They bounced back and forth between League One and the Championship.

Matt Crooks now has three League One promotions on his CV with the same club.

Paul Warne was replaced by Paul Hurst in 2024. Really boring.
#SWFC 🦉

Wednesday were put out of their misery in 2024, being relegated to League One after consistently finishing between 15th and 18th.

John Sheridan was at the helm when they went down, playing 4-4-2 with Jordan Rhodes (34) and Omar Bogle (31) leading the line.

(1/2)
Liam Palmer is STILL the first-choice right-back. He did, however, play 13 games on loan at D.C United in the MLS in 2023. Nice little break for him.

(2/2)
#SCFC 🔴

No finishes higher than 10th, Mark Hughes is back, and Tom Ince plays every week at 33 despite not having scored a league goal in three years.

(1/2)
Signed former Manchester United midfielder Aidan Barlow for 800k, barely played him, sold him to Barnsley for 250k, who he now consistently gets 15+ assists for.

The art of the deal 💰

(2/2)
#WatfordFC 🟡

Returned to the Premier League at the second time of asking, and are comfortable there under former Barcelona boss Quique Setien.

Somehow managed to get £21m for fourth-choice centre-back Ben Wilmot from Championship side Birmingham City.
#Chairboys 🪑

Ainsworth kept their head above water for two years, but was sacked after their eventual relegation.

Scott Parker nearly guided them into League Two, but former West Brom midfielder James Morrison is now in charge and has steadied the ship.

(1/2)
They don’t have a single player over 30, and their backroom staff list is full of ex-players. Tyrone Mears manages the U23s and Chairboys legend Matt Bloomfield is Assistant Manager.
