The Cessna P210N represents one of the last of a breed. High performance, pressurized, retractable gear, high wing aircraft aren’t made anymore. My dad and I have owned ours since 2002. In some ways it’s like owning an historic violin. 1/
(We own one of those too which is played by #3 the protege). There are modern planes that probably do things better and in a more automated way. However, the P210N is unique and still does a fantastic job at its mission. How good is it? 2/
For almost any trip East of Rocky Mountains, it’s better than commercial air. Faster and more comfortable. Even a trip further can be undertaken with speed. It can land at almost any public airport on the continent and can fly over any mountain without oxygen. 3/
The reason I’m tweeting is that today I’m dropping the plane off for an autopilot replacement. It’s a major operation that involves weeks of work and restoration. It will bring the plane one step further along to staying modern and relevant. 4/
Just like with #3’a violin, I hope to pass the plane on to a new owner someday. A new autopilot with an amazing array of new capabilities and safety features is part of that. Maybe that’s is #2. She’s almost ready to solo. This plane is too much for her now but not forever :) 5/5
Hmmmmm, icing might be an issue today. Will wait and see. Backup plan is Sunday. Plan C is afternoon Tuesday of next week.
