Main problem is DAL lacks two players that teams threat as shooters and stay close on (KP, Curry). There is only one player currently teams stay home on, that is THJ. They don't treat Richardson or DFS as shooters. Here are the posessions from yesterday CHA game:
2nd possession in a game, Luka drives...pass to open DFS for open 3, miss.
3rd possesion, fast-break Luka pass to open J Rich, layup miss.
5th possesion, Luka - Powell pnr...CHA not yet in a drop (look at the open lane), Luka drives and makes a layup
6th possession, Luka drives (see Rozier helping of Richardson), gets fouled, makes 2FTs
CHA makes adjustment; from here one they either drop all Luka pnr; or hard show & dobule. See Biyombo here (he is suposed to guard Powell). Luka makes the pass to Powell, who makes a layup.
8th possession, Luka Powell pnr; pass to open THJ, open 3 miss
9th possession...see Graham, he is supposed to guard Richardson
11th possession, Luka drives, is fouled (makes 2FTs)...again all 5 CHA defenders are in the pain...Hayward is supposed to guard Richardson
Next possession, Luka Powell pnr, Luka pass to Maxi who makes open 3
Two possessions later, Luka Powell pnr, Burke misses open 3
Another action...check where Biyombo is (guarding Powell)
Another hard show and double out of a pnr, pass to Burke in the corner for open 3 miss
Pick and pop with Powell, Bridges not guarding Powell at all, Powell misses open 3
Luka drives and makes a tough layup...look at Ball and Bridges who are (not) guarding J Rich and DFS here
Second half started with two Luka drives, CHA lagging way of DFS who missed to corner 3s
Dallas is missing 3 elite pieces in their offense: KP's and Seth's spacing, and Powell rim-rolling (from last year). Until KP is back, on games when they play bad defense (here Luka is guilty), and don't hit open shots will be though to win. The margin for error is too slim...
