Today marks my very last day at @CASAUCL (and in academia but more about that next year).

A thread about this wonderful place 🧵👇
It's been 4 years since I first set foot in @CASAUCL but, after two years of post-doc'ing, my sentiment towards the place has changed little.

It's just jammed with fantastic people doing inspiring work.
Take @jmichaelbatty and @ElsaArcaute, whose presence convinced me to join CASA in the first place.

Working with them on a daily basis has taught me quite some things. But the most important one is that they are even better folks than they are academics.
If you take a look at their resume, you'll realise that means a lot.

Having compassionate people. That, and that alone, can make a research unit thrive in my opinion.
Of course I've had the luck to land into a bunch of extremely talented and friendly colleagues that have shaped my daily experience, thinking and well, being, in ways they cannot imagine. @RobMurcio @RMorphet @NZdanowska @JusteRaimbault @agodoylorite and many other.
I am excited to see where they are going, packed with all their talents, but mostly I just look forward to hang out with them again!
What I loved most and what I will thoroughly miss is that you can share small moments with anyone in CASA: singing in the kitchen, moments outside the office, and most of all: Pasta day.

Eternal gratitude to @ValeSignorelli for that blessing.
One of the things that struck me most in @CASAUCL is how they manage to bring together so many different talent and interests and offer them opportunities for self-development.

This is not a given. It is an asset that has been built up by all people who ever worked there.
It is the slowly acquired sum of reputation, compound expertise, vision, striving for excellence, and the willingness to do new stuff.

It's only right to thank all the people that have contributed to it before and who will continue to contribute to it.
Complementary to vision, of course, is daily routine.

If the one lacks the other becomes obsolete.

I would therefore like to thank the entire admin team for supporting us day after day, as well as all professional services at @BartlettUCL and UCL in general.
Talking vision and daily efforts, a special shout-out goes to @adam_dennett as well.

I have been stealing his leadership skills with my eyes as much as I could. I wish I could say the same for his dancing skills but, well, another time perhaps. He still needs some practice.
There is a thousand things I could say about @CASAUCL and the impact it makes on society.

This however would take it a little too far for twitter but if you are interested to learn more or have a chat about anything vaguely related to CASA, you can always slide in my DMs.
For the sake of brevity I can not finish this thread with one of @jmichaelbatty 's famous stories here (they simply lack brevity).

However, I will be able to dig up one of his quotes:

"CASA, well, you can check out anytime you like. But you can never leave".
