These women are, from left to right, Margaret (Meg) Connery, Mabel Purser, Barbara Hoskins, & Margaret Cousins. They were all involved in the campaign for women's suffrage in Ireland. The Irish Women's Suffrage Federation was formed on August 21st, 1911.

The #Irish #women's #suffrage movement took place at a time when the independence movement was underway. At a difficult time in Irish history, Irish women from different social and political backgrounds came together to work towards a common goal. #IrishWomenInHistory

Unfortunately, the general Irish public is still not very aware of the incredible work women like these did to gain some of the very basic rights that Irish women have today.
Arguably, the women's liberation movement changed Irish society far more than independence ever did.

We can all do our bit to ensure that this hugely important aspect of #Irish #history is recognised and taught in our schools and universities as part of the core history curriculum.
