Our company @_JupiterApp starting selling subscriptions this year. It’s been on/off for obvious pandemic reasons but thought I’d share the progress:
We’re started the year with a redesign based off of feedback from a working MVP and kept iterating on our MLP (minimum lovable product). We have an integrated system with multiple tools instead of just one so doing this right just... takes time.
The hardest thing about our market is... well, none of them are here. They are service professionals so they expect... service. This means about 75% of blogs written today about SaaS frankly just doesn’t apply.

I *really* know what Software as a Service means now though.
This experience has shown me the majority of well-meaning bubble advice just floats into the ether of nothingness for us, because no one really understands our audience. They’re not so crazy different but they’re not the same either.
Personally, I’ve had to shift my mindset from product-oriented to more marketing-oriented. Once they’re in, they love us, but getting them in requires more than what I’m familiar with.

Getting these comments helps. Feel a lot of pressure to go faster or harder in w/e sense.
In any case, we’ve taken the churn rate from a bouncing 30% to a bouncing 15%. We expect to get this down pretty dramatically in Q1 (growing 30% Q/Q).

At lower numbers the metrics are just all over the place. It’s not the amazing overnight sensation everyone desires though.
At the very least, we’re ending the year with enough MRR to fund our paid advertising and intend to push organic growth more heavily in 2021.
I stay pretty quiet on Twitter because there’s just so much to say and idk how to talk about it with the nuance it deserves.

Wish I could summarize it into hot takes but there’s just one thousand caveats to any sentence. + I’m not willing to put my name to that type of writing.
Bootstrapping software is rough, and I’m mostly worried about time vs. money while also knowing money can buy time. But, for greater optionality in the future it makes more sense to grow a bit slowly now and figure out the right time to step on the gas.
Raising is not out of the question, we’re just lucky enough to be able to choose when.
In 2021, I want to figure out how to share more about growing a software company but trying to figure out how to do that without losing my soul or self-respect. I don’t think I’m cut out to be a thought-leader, whatever that means.

Hope you have a wonderful New Year ❤️
