What a roller coaster 2020 has been. From >70% down in March to finishing +13.7% YTD. Congratulations to many on some fabulous returns and thanks for your generosity in sharing ideas, research and banter. I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2021. 1/7
Some reflections/lessons from 2020 I hope to take forward.
1. IMO the psychology of investing can have the biggest influence over your investment returns. Try to study it, understand your own and try to control how it influences your investment decisions. 2/7
2. The market is inefficient. This can test your psychology & present fabulous opportunities. Only doing your own research to develop your own conviction will help you when your patience is tested. But, assuming you're right, patience can pay big time. I need to develop more! 3/7
3. The fintwit community is amazing. Yes, there are some dodgy accounts, but there are some amazing investors who freely share stock ideas, research and news that is an invaluable resource to learn. There goals, risk tolerance and timescales may differ from yours....4/7
.....so don't blindly follow them, but use them to generate ideas for your own research. Thanks to everybody I follow and others who have contributed so much to my understanding, enjoyment and returns. 5/7
4. The US provides amazing investment opportunities, with great liquidity and high growth stock opportunities given the mkt size & investor attitude. However the valuation model seems completely different to the UK and I need to really understand more so I can take the leap. 6/7
5. Get in to podcasts. I started this year & they provide another wealth of investment training, stock ideas and entertainment. So much more to learn in 2021. 2021 goal is to get the SIPP sustainably in to 7 figures. Got to within £7k at ATH in Q4 2020, so maybe Q1 2021. 🤞 7/7
