Despite various Covid-related constraints I still managed to get out and about for some suitably socially-distanced advisory visits in 2020. Here is a thread of 5 of them in no particular order. 5 more to come tomorrow...............
1. @elmorecourt, Glos. Visited pre-restrictions. A young forward-looking family looking to rewild part of the farm and embrace nature-based tourism in a quiet corner of the Severn Vale - only a Ben Stokes stone's throw from my feral childhood parish of Standish.
2. #PurbeckHeaths, Dorset. Large NNR with fantastic mosaic of habitats. Great potential for further expansion to be the largest rewilding area in lowland Britain. Key players such as @NaturalEngland and @Natures_Voice all keen to move up the rewilding spectrum. Work in progress.
3. Bulwick Estate, Northants. Very early days. Looking at potential for rewilding part of the estate, although some impressive natural regeneration already underway in old quarry workings. Subsequently connected them with @FoFineshade next door. Bigger, better, more joined up!
4. @WildKenHill, Norfolk. Really impressive site and landowning family. Strategic, driven and dynamic. Helped them get started in a meeting a couple of years ago, and really impressed to see how fast they've moved. Beaver enclosure up and running and more ambitious plans ahead.
5. @SG_SkyGarden, London. Not a rewilding site of course, but the location for a very important meeting I had with senior Army reps to discuss potential for rewilding on MoD estate to help them get to net zero on carbon by 2040. Watch this space. Surreal light when we met too!
