As people who (in the main) are financially secure and in good jobs celebrate MBEs etc I want to acknowledge the many 1000s of unpaid carers who filled the gaps when services withdrew/shut; who are still fighting social care bureaucracy and paying for services they didnt get.
For all the work you did behind closed doors, the trauma of dealing with continence issues, constant nausea, complex health issues, medication, mental health struggles; for the lack of sleep and for the sheer power of will and strength that kept you going..I see you.
For dealing with public services which have forgotten their humanity, for dealing with a still heartless benefits system; for being a nurse, a physio, a teacher, a counsellor, for all the skills & experience you have and use daily, I salute you. Even though that experience has
been ignored and devalued in every aspect of planning and responding to Covid, you’ve continued to fight for your loved ones, often at great personal cost. I salute you.
May 2021 be the year when policy making truly hears your voice.
May 2021 be the year when policy making truly hears your voice.
And I’m not dissing those who got awards...some are absolutely deserved. But for every single carer who dealt with and survived the deep trauma of the last year without any real recognition or support from our governments, I want you to know that I see you xx
And I cannot forget the carers separated from loved ones in residential settings..because you don’t stop caring when loved ones are in formal care settings. I see you xxx
And this...from me to you. May 2021 be less sh*tty.
