This positivity rate for 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 is nagging at me.... really nagging at me. I shared it yesterday. Here is the whole nation by regions. Nothing natural about it. And then the individual regions thereafter.

1/12
Ayrshire and Arran positive rate increases between 23rd and 28th December from around 5% to approaching 15%.

2/12
Fife positive rate increases between 23rd and 26th Dec from being fairly flat at around 5% to reaching up to 15%.

3/12
Forth Valley positivity rate goes up between 23rd and 28th December, from around 2.5% to 15%.

4/12
Greater Glasgow and Clyde positivity had been very stable at 5% for 3 weeks, and on 23rd was normal and in 2 days it reached up to over 15% on the 25th December. Now hovering there.

5/12
Grampian positivity had been reasonably stable though slightly rising, and hovering around 5% until the 23rd Dec and by 27th it was approaching 15%. In fact, yesterday it went a little higher again.

6/12
Lanarkshire positivity rate had been fluctuating daily between 5 and 10% and then on 23rd December it took a sudden leap and by Christmas Day it was at 20%. From yesterday's update it looks like it's now hovering around 15%.

7/12
Lothian positivity rate has been so steady at 5% for two and a half months. Still normal reading on 23rd December, then by 28th December, the rate was exceeding 15%.

8/12
Tayside, perhaps the most ridiculously unnatural looking, has been totally stable at 5% for 3 whole months. And then on the 23rd suddenly, the rate started soaring and by 27th December it was over 15%.

9/12
This is by no means the first time that we have seen this sort of nonsense emerging from the Scottish data. For example, positives everywhere peaked simultaneously on 23rd October etc. But these positive rates are just beyond ridiculous.

There is no way they should ever be used as a measure.... of infection rates across the country. There has been a bit of a change in the ratio of NHS to Community Lab tests, but not particularly since 23rd December. This might explain the higher rate if hosp infections...

... are a really dreadful issue. But I don't understand the turn on 23rd December. I think it's much more likely there was a change in lab practice of some sort in the lab. I guess on .... erm... the 23rd??

I'm tired of this! People's lives are being ruined based on this.
