The history of the burned Samadhi:
Teri is a small but old village of Distract Karak. One can find references in Khushal Baba poetry, written nearly 400 years ago. In fact the forefathers of Khushal Baba migrated to Akora Khattak from here.
At the time of partition Teri
total population was almost 400 houses, of which 130 were Hindus houses & the rest Muslims. Hindus were mainly involved in Business and Muslims in agriculture.
In early 1900 there were two religious , contemporary scholars. One Hindu & the other Muslim.
Interestingly, both these
saints were close friends.
The society was relatively tolerant. After there death , the Muslim leader was burried in the plains.. His grave is still treated a sacred place , as "Dey Maulvi saib zyarath".
While a controversy raised after the death of the Hindu religious
leader. Some thought that he had converted to Islam , with his Muslim friend, Maulvi saib.. so burial or cremation? After partition an old guy, Chiragh Din, occupied the house of the Hindu saint. And started selling small items , like candies, in the daiwari, of the house.
Small, dingy, and dark place.. a village primary school was near that house. I attended that kutcha school , in early 60s . Studied aik donra, donra, dow donrey chaar, in the same school..😄
In recess we would go to Chiragh Din's shop, with a tukka in our hand to buy candies.
Since electrify has not yet reached our village, so always terrified from the inside darkness, would handover tukka to Chiragh Din, at the doorstep. He would come out to give me candies.
Chiragh Din was a smart person , even in his old age.. fair skin with big green eyes.
He had only one son, (Iftikhar) & many daughters. All very beautiful and handsome. Chiragh Din married all his daughters , before he died in 70s. His wife died before I was born.
After the death of Chiragh Din, the ownership (illegal one) and occupation transfered
to his son Iftikhar, who was older than me by almost 10 years. Meanwhile some Hindus , from India contacted Hindus contacted local Hindus and told them about this sacred place. In early 90s , an old lady came here from Australia, reportedly to b the grand daughter
Of the Hindu saint. Negotiated with Iftikhar, to buy the house. But he was reluctant. He was a principal of Commerce College Kohat, and knew the value of the house. She somehow managed to hire an attorney. The case was decided by the Supreme Court, in favour of the Hindus.
But who would dislodge Iftikhar. Feeling the heat, Iftikhar decided to extract enough money to have a decent house in city, instead of this small village.. which he did..
Meantime , in 1997 a charged crowed invited by Oremaro Moolah, burnt the building, after the evacuation of
Iftikhar. Supreme court ordered proper construction of the sacred place... But now who would built such a disputed place. Came the ANP government, they assigned the contractorship to one Khalid, who was from ANP. The building completed in two years. Many Hindus started coming in
But this time too, in cahoots with some other JUF leaders, Oremuro Moolah organized the agitation, & burned it again..
