Vaccine 1 dose strategy

Been doing some digging about Pfizer efficacy after one dose and data behind the decision
So in the graph the vaccine injected group line flattens out around day 10
The data table shows that after dose 1 and before administration of the second dose there’s approx 52% efficacy
Right after dose 2, but ??presumably before it provokes a response it’s 90.5

The last line states the data CANNOT support a single dose strategy at the moment
It does say efficacy of protection against severe COVID after dose 1 is 88.9%
Which is probably where government found its justification...
I’m guessing

I’m guessing
I think the actual efficacy after one dose is 50%
We can’t rely on that ~90% figure as the 2nd dose HAS been administered
But I’m guessing that the justification for the 1 dose strategy was the 89% prevention of severe disease
Ps Im an orthopaedic surgeon not an immunologist

Here’s the letter from NHS England and a glimpse of the rationale

Personally, on balance of this data I think it probably is the right decision
The more people with some immunity the better given the current situation
It would be nice though to understand the full rationale and be reassured about the 12 week gap and data to support this

The 52% efficacy for dose 1 has been debunked here in this excellent thread.
So it looks like efficacy after one fade is probably more like 85%

DOI I’m writing this a patient trying to understand what it means to them
I had the Pfizer vaccine and my second dose will be cancelled
I am not an expert on vaccines but I do understand medical literature to an extent so am trying to understand the rationale
