2) Lets examine this claim -- British EIC's rule 1st came to Bengal.

But that "Bengal" included undivided Bihar too, earlier ruled ruled by Nawabs

Also Bihar's Bhojpur area provided initial recruits for British Army + Patna was important centre of British commercial activities

3) Maybe bcoz British rule was centered around Calcutta so Bengali elites around Calcutta "benefitted".

In that case, how did 1860s onwards, rural hinterlands of faraway East Bengal produced such great men despite East Bengal since 1890s being totally hostile to British rule ?

4) Bengali Hindus became hostile to British rule after 1890s

Armed revolution by extremists (1902), Swadeshi movement (1905) and starting up of Swadeshi Industries & institutions by Bengalis ;

Rejection of British imperialism & advancement of Bengalis happened simultaneously
