Alright, now it is time for the first ever What The Trans end of year awards (that Michelle is making up without consulting anyone, off the top of her head).

A thread on 2020 from a pissed off, traumatised, sleep deprived trans journalist. Who may still be intoxicated.
Best moment:

Joint winners

Non-binary people getting covered by the equality act thanks to a new legal precedent.

A conservative majority Supreme Court ruling in favour of trans rights. TWICE.

Trump getting the boot.
Worst moment:

Joint winners

Bell Vs Tavistock judgement

Basically anytime Liz Truss/the government talked publicly about trans issues. Especially April and June (“hey trans people, know you are under lockdown, lets make that shit permanent!”)
Biggest surprise:

That Terfs not realising that for most of the year there were no public spaces to ‘defend’, and that refuges could have used some of their fundraising abilities...but instead appeared to send trans people more online abuse than ever before.
The “did that just happen?!” Award:

JK Rowling publishing her hate screed. During pride month/Black Lives Matter seizing the microphone.

( @jkrowling you are still dangerous to children because of your transphobia, I am Michelle Snow, sue me)
Favourite moment that most people have probably forgotten:

Trans folks protesting the governments transphobic bullshit despite threats from police and the damned virus.

God trans folks are incredible.
Best/worst hate group:

The LGB Alliance. They are so fucking weird, and so bad at being a hate group. They are fascinatingly smug and arrogant it is like watching a bad performer on the X-Factor.
Transphobic bigot nightmare person of the year:

Joint winners

Debbie Hayton and Rose of Dickhead

Because we are trans centric, we couldn’t give this to a cis person could we?
Most annoying covert transphobe:

James O’Brien from LBC for calling transphobia ‘reasonable’ whilst being so insufferably smug, self righteous and arrogant in general.

Congrats @mrjamesob! Invented this category just for you!
The “wow, he is awesome” award:

Elliot Page coming out. And the way he did it. And then going straight into fucking advocacy for us? Like a day later?

What a fucking dude.
The “wow, she is awesome” award:

@KathrynBristow becoming co-chair of Green Party Women with a transphobe, but responded to the hate with class that I am completely incapable of.

You inspired me to try (and fail) to be a better person
The “wow, they are awesome” award:

@vicparsons_

They are PinkNews’ gender identity reporter whilst being non-binary.

You can imagine what being that prominent can get you. And they fucking nailed everything they wrote anyway. Tough under normal conditions.

Vic, you rock.
Ally of the year (that helped us specifically):

@MillyAbraham

She knows why. You lot never will. But seriously...unsung hero has never been more apt.

Thanks Amelia xx
Ally of the year (that helped all of us):

@JolyonMaugham

Jo directs the good law project and they are about to take on the terfs and their friends (the American ones who we all know about).

Thanks Jo!
The “they deserve an award but I am too tired to invent an award so here” award:

The UK transgender community.

This was a tough ass year. Tougher for us than most.

If you are reading this, you made it to the finish line.

You are so fucking rad.
Right, that’s it. Sorry if I forgot something or left someone out that was obvious.

Think I may go back to bed.
