Thank you for all the kind wishes on my OBE, something I had never envisaged but which I accept on behalf of others. Indulge me as I mention them here- firstly, for my mum married at 17, but who fought for our education as the first girls from our 'clan' to go to university 1/5
Secondly, for the women who paved the way, as @MeeraSyal once said 'I feel the presence of my ancestors walking alongside me ' but also the young women in the UK today who are still unable to live the lives they want. 2/5
Thirdly, for the POC working in the charity and foundation sector- I see you. I see what you go through to maintain your integrity. I see you bearing the burden of representation for your communities and being the conscience of your organisation.
Finally to my friends @bedlutcf @HighSheriffBeds @LLieutenantBeds. Fran, Dipak, Breege, Hannan, Michele, Anushia, Jaqui. This is recognition for YOUR efforts in genuinely putting local communities in Luton and Bedfordshire at the centre of your work. Nobody does it better. 4/5
Finally, to my new supporters @BBCCiN who have welcomed me, (particularly the kind @Simon_Antrobus) and who have pushed me to refocus my energies on how we meet the needs of children and young people in these critical times. The road ahead is tough so wish me luck.
