Thread. A conversation I had with a MiLB player.
Guy: The org says I don’t need to start hitting again till mid January.
Me: That’s a long time to not swing a bat or track a moving ball. It also leaves little time to make improvements before ST
Guy: That’s what they told me

Me: If I told you I’d give you a million dollars to make 95/100 free throws on March first, would you start shooting free throws now? Or would you wait till mid Jan?
Guy: ...good point
Me: If I’m going to win a job, I’m not sitting around waiting till I’m allowed to get better

Me: You have a problem with left on left sliders? Why not hit a thousand lefty sliders? You think that skill is just going to magically appear?
Guy:

There’s definitely time to step away and put the bat down. Hitting is hard, and every ball player is haunted by perfection. So a mental break is healthy.
But actively waiting to stay the same, or think you’re going to be able to just show up and not struggle... c’mon

Pitchers don’t throw 91 anymore. So the 6 weeks of tee work and flippies might feel good, but it ain’t cuttin it.
Be challenged by velo, try and hit bastard sliders, get your ass kicked before it matters, buy a composite bat, and put some real work in.
