Thinking about how Kylo has arguably the most agency of any character across the entirety of the trilogy, yet people act like his decision to be evil is forced upon him. In TFA he very clearly finalizes his decision to be evil despite being offered redemption and the same thing-
happens again in TLJ, yet his stans seem to think his hand is being forced? Even though in TLJ he chooses to become Supreme Leader and tries to eradicate the entirety of the resistance (Rey included). Like...everything sympathetic about him is shown through outside media.
We aren't given any of that in the movies. And for everything that is supposed to make us sympathize with him, we get another atrocity willingly committed by him. A big excuse form his stans is that he'll get punished if he disobeys Snoke and we never...see that in the movies?
In contrast to Finn who, when he refuses to fire on civilians, is sent to reprogramming no such stakes exist for Kylo. He isn't punished for losing the map, he isn't punished for not getting the info he needs from Rey, he isn't punished for losing to Rey and-
never retrieving the map to Luke, he isn't punished for failing to kill Leia (even though leaving her floating in space isn't good), and the bottom line is he isn't forced to do anything. He has several opportunities to escape and he consistently chooses to be evil.
And yet! He is somehow the most sympathetic character to a lot of people. Nothing is ever his fault and he's just a poor misunderstood baby being forced to be evil. Imagine if people had the same empathy for the Black lead as they did for the white villain
