Another way to think about the difference between accessibility and inclusion:

The accessibility or inaccessibility of the software you create is a manifestation of inclusion as a core value in your organization.

#accessibility #a11y #inclusion
Many people/orgs say "We believe in making things accessible! Accessibility is one of our core values!"

But I think the bigger thing that IS A CORE VALUE is inclusion.

So make those statements. "Inclusion is one of our core values, so we've made our things accessible"
And say "We practice inclusive design here to help make our things accessible"

And say "Inclusion is a core value, so our hiring process is accessible so we don't exclude people with disabilities by default"
And say "Inclusion is a core value here, so the tools we use internally need to be accessible"
Those things resonate WAY more than these versions (which DO sound good)

"Accessibility is a core value, so our hiring process is accessible..." and

"Accessibility is a core value here, so the tools we use internally need to be accessible"
When you're thinking about your statements you make remember that accessibility is a state of being, whereas inclusion is an act.

How we talk about our work matters.
