I think at least 3 times today I've seen posts or articles claiming "The Ethiopian empire was built in the second half of the 19th century." 🙄 Just because you write something doesn't make it true. You can say the empire EXPANDED in the 2nd half of the 19th century, sure, BUT...
...was "built" "started" "created" in the 1800s is BS. This Afro-pessimist propaganda is really intended to nullify the history of Ethiopia as a nation state. We don't say the United States wasn't the U.S. because there were only 13 colonies when it was founded, do we? 🙄
Similarly, the idea that the Ethiopian Empire didn't exist before the 19th c. is asinine on its face. There were emperors - duh. It had international relations with Egypt and consulates in Europe. "The early 17th century... witnessed the steady absorption of Oromos into the...
...imperial state." --The Ethiopians, R. Pankhurst. In other words, contact, collaboration and competition with peoples in nearby territories, etc. Waxing and waning and we get to Tewodros, Yohannes IV, etc. The point is we're just supposed to ignore several centuries of history?
Make no mistake, this toxic crap isn't history. It's political propaganda dressed up as "reinterpreted" history, given validation by certain academics who simply had no love for the country or for the Ethiopian people. More talking about people but seldom TO people or FOR them.😠
