Some on the Right would have you believe that you’re not really a conservative unless you are willing to pretend that you are crazy.

But those who imply such are wrong. They’re also not conservative in any meaningful sense.
To be a conservative is to have an interest in tradition, to believe that history is a form of knowledge, and to have a commitment to preserving that which is good even as change is slowly implemented over time.
Conservatives believe that revolution is the enemy of reform, and the perfect should not stand in the way of the good. Beyond history and tradition, conservatives are also tethered to reality. They believe in order as well as liberty.
Some of the things happening on this website in the name of conservatism, are far too radical or authoritarian or even anarchical to have any real resonance among actual conservatives.
At its best, to be a conservative is to be thoughtful critic and treasurer of the wisdom, tradition, and knowledge that has been handed down unto us.

It is to recognize we hold what we possess as a trust. We are stewards of something inherited, which we will ourselves pass down.
Beclowning oneself to “own the libz” or show allegiance to the tribe isn’t conservatism. Neither is persecuting allies one deems ideologically impure or aiming to “burn it all down” when one fails to secure a desired outcome.
Safeguarding the integrity of your actions, words, and beliefs in a time of hyper polarization and tribalism is conservative.

The rest is just noise.
