#Liverpool after 16 games in the PL, last 10 seasons. Same number of points as in that crazy 13/14 season (finished with 84), about on par with the teams before Virgil, Alisson and Fabinho arrived. We fans have been spoilt rotten by Jürgen’s Reds over the last two seasons. Relax.
This will be a very different season to the last two. Ongoing pandemic. Brutal injuries. Hectic schedule. Nobody will be running away with the league any time soon. When Liverpool win the league again, it will truly be Klopp’s greatest managerial achievement. Mark it.
To compare, here is Man City in the Oil Money Era. They are having their worst start after 14 games in a decade. Even if they win their 2 games in hand, they are still one point behind Liverpool. Even Pep, with his billion dollar spend, cannot maintain multiple 90+ point seasons
Over on @thetomkinstimes, Mark Cohen has compared this season to last, using underlying stats from http://Understat.com , by looking at the first 15 games. Obviously the schedules were different but over 15 games, the conclusions are clear: LFC are still good, but not as lucky.
In short, when lucky things happen to people, and they overachieve, they call themselves good. But when bad things happen to them, and they underachieve, they call themselves unlucky. Same with sports. When our team gets lucky, we overstate how good they are. And vice versa.
The most important factor, and the only thing you can truly control, is underlying process. And Liverpool’s process is fine. The results are often influenced by luck, referees, VAR, randomness... but as long as the process is good, good results will follow. Just trust the process
