As 2020 comes to a close (in just over 9.5 hours for me) I'm going to continue my years long tradition of doing a bit of a thank you thread.
First, thanks to any of you who have followed me, retweeted me, liked my tweets, said hello, joined in a conversation, and made having a twitter account fun.
2020 has been a hell of year. It started with my country on fire. I remember my city being covered in smoke for so many days. People I know had to wear scarves over their faces to be able to breathe. Little did we know what was to come!
For about a week and a half, the fires eased, and Covid hadn't hit yet, and in this small window I was lucky enough to see Queen perform. They were incredible, and definitely the highlight I'm going to take away from this year.
When Covid hit, it hit my state hardest, compared to the rest of Australia. We had 724 cases in one day. The same day the UK had just over 800. Yesterday we marked 59 days in a row with no locally acquired cases. Yesterday the UK had over 53,000 new cases.
It's was hard work getting to where we got. Lots of sacrifices were made, lots of heartache, lots of income lost, but we did it. We did it with science and following the informed advice of experts. Today we've recorded 3 new cases, due to travellers bringing it from an outbreak..
...in Sydney. Everyone is hoping we crack down on this swiftly. We do NOT want to go back to what we've been through. If we follow the rules, don't lie to authorities about where we've been, and continue to follow the advice of experts, we'll be okay.
I hope you and yours have made the best out of 2020 that you could. It's been hard for so many, and so many have not made the full journey with us. 'Next year' is a human construct, but here's hoping the universe aligns a lot better than it did this year!
As always, thanks to @rickygervais who so many years ago now brought me to the attention of so many of you. Cheers, mate.
Thank you to @DeityFree for being a follower here and transferring that to a friendship yvia Facebook. She's truly a wonderful person to know.
Huge thanks to @broncosatheist who has followed me for as long as I can remember. She has become a genuine friend and someone who is high on my list of 'people from online who I want to meet' :D
Of course to the incomparable, amazing, and wonderful @godless_mom. There just aren't enough superlatives to sum her up. The work she does for the atheist community is incredible. I'm lucky to be her friend and have her share her time with me. It's truly an honour.
Today sees the end of my last full year with a fiancé as next year we're getting married. To my future with...you are the best. I mean that without qualification.
Enjoy your New Year's eve whatever you're up to. Stay safe. Try being kind, try to avoid schadenfreude, it's most unbecoming. Try treating people the way you want your children and friends to be treated (Unless you're a psychopath, obviously).
Make informed decisions, follow the evidence, learn a lot, and most of all, have fun doing it!
cheers!

cheers!
