I'm seeing a lot of people pitch their books on the hashtag and asking if anyone is interested. This isn't the best strategy IMO for a few reasons. Mentors likely won't respond unless it is something they're VERY enthusiastic about, and not all mentors are on the hashtag #AskAMM
Instead, here's my recommendation for how to narrow down your picks. First, check out the mentor profiles and find who's interested in your age category and genre. That'll narrow it down already. Then click on the mentor pictures to see full MSWLs #askamm http://authormentormatch.com/mentors/
You can peruse their genre preferences and wishlist items there and rule out anyone who would be a bad fit. Then, instead of pitching generally on the hashtag, try @ ing those mentors with questions about tropes or preferences and use the hashtag #askamm
A lot of mentors won't respond to direct pitches because... it's hard to tell from just a pitch if they're going to be the best fit. It might be in their wheelhouse, and the pages might blow them away, but they don't want to promise interest if they're not sure. #askamm
For ex, I wouldn't ask: "Would you be interested in my space opera about slug aliens who have to fight a star?" (although yes, I am)
I would ask: "What are your feelings on non-human characters in sci fi?" or "Do you like aliens?" #askamm
I would ask: "What are your feelings on non-human characters in sci fi?" or "Do you like aliens?" #askamm
At the end of the day, use your best judgment and ask specific questions to the mentors you're considering! We're more likely to answer if we know the question is for us and if it's something we can for sure answer #askamm
