Understanding why the mRNA in the Pfizer/Moderna vaccines cannot change your DNA, explained to diff audiences:

(1) Young kids: DNA and mRNA are kept in separate parts of the cell.

(2) High school: DNA is inside the nucleus, and mRNA cannot get access to it.
(3) Undergrads (non science): the flow of info in our cells goes from DNA to RNA to proteins.

This cannot be reversed in the absence of a special enzyme, which our cells don’t contain. Nor does the mRNA in the vaxcine have the tag needed to get the mRNA into the nucleus.
(4) Bio Undergrad/Grad students: in order to enter the nucleus, a macromolecule as large as mRNA would need to be artificially tagged with a nuclear localization signal.
Without it, the mRNA could not associate with importin proteins to use small G-protein mediated transport across the nuclear pore complex. Additionally, coronaviruses do not possess Rev Transcriptase as they are positive strand RNA viruses.
