This is going to take some time to build. Also, I will not be building this one in the bag... 😂
When I was younger, I had Lego, but not really these specific build sets. I had the same thing most kids had, a massive tub of miscellaneous coloured bricks, that we built all sorts of everything out of.

So I'm only really seeing the detail in @LEGO_Group build sets now
They are *so clever* in the manuals and inner workings. This Nintendo will be all grey bricks on the outside, but inside it's a riot of colour. Why? Because it's easier to follow the build!

I know that that little bit lines up with the red 2 square so I can place it!
The way the sets piece together is genuinely fascinating and it's so satisfying when your mix of weird holey bricks & mad colours suddenly turns into a button, a controller, or a recognisable piece.

Just really brilliant engineering.

I'm loving returning to Lego as an adult!
From what will eventually look like a simple grey Nintendo box, you'd never believe the complexity of the structure inside!

The engineering to get the cartridge tray hinge working is genuinely amazing.
This little grey piece sliding back and forth latches the tray down and lets it up too. Fascinated by it.
The details are also just lovely, this whole set is steeped in nostalgia.
I don't mean to alarm you, but I think that @LEGO_Group hid a tiny mario level inside this Nintendo 😂😂😂😍
6 bags down, and the Nintendo is starting to take shape! You'd never guess all the bits inside just looking at this exterior, but there's so much going on.
Oh my gosh, I actually laughed out loud with joy when I clicked in the last bit of the lid! It's totally a little NES đŸ˜đŸ„°đŸ€©

The lid hinges open and closed too!

Next up in bag 7 is building the cartridge.
It's a me, Mario!

Nice touch - an inside structural plate is green, since you can see the green board inside a real Nintendo cartridge. So you can see it inside the Lego one too!

I'll try blowing on it later to see if it helps.
The joy I am feeling in this moment is indescribable.
But where will I get a CRT to play it on?

Oh yeah. Bags 11 through 20-ish 🙈😂
Bags 9 and 10 have provided the base of the TV! You wouldn't believe the complexity in all these little gears.
Look at all these interlocking gears working!
Made some progress, and great news - I can adjust the aerial for the best possible reception on my TV.

The complexity inside this TV set grows. Bag 14 scares me...
Would you just *look* at this chunky boi?!

How did we ever fit TVs anywhere? 🙈😂
Who knew Lego could be so....wiggly?
This is where things start to get extremely specific and fiddly. Because I understand that the Mario I'll eventually put in this TV jumps up and down as the screen rotates and he knows when to jump based on certain colour bricks. So if it's not right....he's gonna have a bad time
This grid is built on that wiggly Lego, and the series of coloured blocks on top of this helps dictate what goes where later and possibly how Mario jumps?
Now that I have that built, it's time to build the Mario scene, and that is being built pixel by pixel by pixel...

Painstaking but satisfying!

Look at the little painted bricks! The coin đŸ€©đŸ˜ Fiddly but adorable.
Finished! And then I had to terrifyingly lift it up and bend it 🙈

Was I worried? You'd better believe it!
This middle bit has to sit very precisely onto a little car thing, and then wrap all the way around it and click into a closed loop. Terrifying!
But look. Look! When you lift this wobbly piece of Lego terror and put it into the shell of the TV, on top of all those other tiny cogs and such, look at what you can do! 😍😍😍
Mario is in position. He floats on this clear plastic piece. See that bubble that's behind him? That's important, because lots of the pieces on the background actually stick out a little. And that bubble is what helps mario jump around!
I assure you, you are not prepared for how cute this TV is. It sits on a little Lego stand! The channel button actually makes a little click when you turn it around. It is absolutely gorgeous.
But oh, the piece de resistance!

When you turn the small crank on the side of the TV, real life magic happens.

Itsa me, Mario!
Next step - dig my actual Nintendo (still in original box) out of the attic, and have myself a little side by side @LEGO_Group @NintendoEurope photoshoot!

Watch this space for nice photos, tomorrow when it's daylight!
Well boys and girls, we took a little trip to the attic, and look at what we found here!

Yes, I still have my original @NintendoEurope box because I had to put it away when I was done playing with it, so I kept it as storage. I bought this with my communion money.
And yes, you had better believe that's the original styrofoam packaging too. Along with the plug my dad had to wire onto it so I could play it! 🙈😂

I had two controllers, and my NES came with Mario. I bought two games with it too, Solar Jetman and Solstice
There she is now, in all her grey on grey glory.

So many hours spent failing to pass levels on this.
I hope you're noting some of the exquisite details, because when I say that @LEGO_Group made it so perfect, I am not playing.

The audio and video in, the top vents! 😍 It's all there!
Not forgetting, of course, our power in and cable jack!
Side by side, they are a thing of exquisite early-tech monotonous grey beauty.
Right down to the satisfying click of the game in and out đŸ€©đŸ˜
I don't have a CRT to compare the TV to, but it is also full of gorgeous details.

Look at that chunky back! The channel changer knob!
The knob even clicks when you change channel!
It's hard to film steady with one hand (I'm so professional 😂😂) and rotate the crank with the other, but look at Mario go!
I have so loved building this, what a wonderful trip down memory lane. Challenging too, I had to unstick and reposition pieces more than once 🙈

If you're an 80s kid, I can't recommend it enough.

(Obviously, this is not sponcon. Lego don't sponsor me, lol. I just loved this)
