Something I’ve been thinking about this holiday is how little I’ve missed travel this year, which is surprising given how much I travelled before (~10 international trips a year). For me the best bit of this year has been the tranquillity of a life lived locally & slowly.
I feel genuinely enriched and changed by some of the hobbies I’ve taken up this year and the massive pause of ‘normal’ life gave me time to take stock of personal and professional challenges and acknowledge where expectations weren’t being met and change those bits of my life.
I know it’s not the done thing to say that 2020 has been OK in parts (it’s objectively fucking shit!) but I’ll also give a begrudging nod to the welly up the bum it’s given me. That said, there are some bits of travel I do miss. I miss the feeling of awe. I miss feeling small.
So in an attempt to recapture those feelings of awe I went rummaging through the albums (digital & old school) and it’s made me feel so peaceful. These landscapes will still be there on the other side of this. I don’t plan on flying like I did but I’m excited to feel tiny again.
Photos of old albums kicking in now...
Iguazu Falls, though I can’t now remember this was shot from the Brazil or Argentina side.

Laguna Colorada, Bolivia. It’s more than 19 years since I took this photo and I’ve yet to go anywhere that has made me feel so tiny as the Bolivian altiplano. Also, there were thousands of flamingos on this lake. I was so happy! It’s just so big you can’t see them!
Anyway, that’s just a few places. Maybe I’ll more if something comes back to me. I’d love to know/see photos of places that left you awestruck.
BTW, a lot of my travel is work - I wasn’t doing that much travel on my own buck/time. But I can’t share those photos!
