this is a mini-thread about random stuff I find cool or interesting about various churches in Estonia (totes inspired by @mrigorahmedov's tweet re: cathedrals they want to visit)
they will be EAOC churches mainly because those are the ones I'm most familiar with bc of family

Kraavi Apostolic Orthodox Church was built in 1895 and dedicated to prophet Elijah. the building itself is really beautiful, and its graveyard is the final resting place of one of the martyrs canonized by the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in 2012, father Ioann
St. Simeon’s and St. Anne’s Church in Tallinn was built between 1752-1755 and is home to some amazingly intricate woodwork - the iconostasis is a work of art, but even the pews are a display of excuisite craftsmanship
Meeksi Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist - it looks small and humble (and it is) but it was built by the congregation members. the work was carried out at night to avoid persecution, because it was 1953 and that wasn't a great time for church-building
In Hiiumaa, we have the Church of the Birth of the Mother of our Lord - it's a very beautiful building and home to some really well preserved liturgical textiles.
Tuhalaane St. Virgin Mary's Dormition Church has burned down twice (the last fire in 1950 was because it was struck by lightning btw). The congregation was re-established in 2008 and they've been raising money to restore the building.
Puutli St Nicholas's Church is a wooden church built by nine families in 1935. It has always lookmed humble from the outside, but the interior used to be well-decorated with various icons and ornaments. Most of these were looted in late 70s - early 80s.
Uue-Virtsu Church of the Birth of Christ in Pärnumaa is in ruins now, but you can still see that it used to be a magnificent building. Interestingly, the builders were all from the island of Muhu. The congregation still exists, but services are held in a different building.
Isidore's Church in Valga is dedicated to the hieromartyr Isidore of Tartu. It is a gorgeous historicist building and a pretty unique dark wooden iconostasis.
