TW Suicide.

I think a big takeaway from articles like this is how much we need to uncouple suicide from depression. Depression can lead to suicide but suicide has many causes. Every person interviewed said ‘they didn’t seem depressed’. But they were in conditions that we KNOW.. https://twitter.com/sarajbenincasa/status/1344366256045125637
...can and do lead to suicide. Isolation, uncertainty, financial stress, boredom. Depression is generally considered an abnormal negative response to your environment. Ofc no one thought they were depressed, they were in an environment where that was a normal response.
Suicide is almost inevitable when you put people in situations like these with no support and nothing to soothe (the suggestions that the company advised ‘self care’ to people trapped in solitary confinement cells, unable to access reliable internet or decent food can eat a dick)
Depression is *a* risk factor for suicide but it is not the *only* risk factor. If you’re looking for depression, you’re going to miss in a lot of cases.
ALSO wtf would they have done if any of these people had disclosed that they were depressed or suicidal?! Tell them to take a nice bath with a glass of wine?!
