One has to do this 👇 every few years

Here is a thread about what to expect if you follow me

No surprises;

These are the topics I love to discuss (here), and in the thread, a rough outline of my views/ philosophy

[Thread]
1. But first, Who am I?

I use social media to discuss professional interests (v. rarely bicycling)

This is basically by background 👇

@Plenary_Session is the podcast
2. My principal interest is cancer therapies, screening & low value medical care (all domains)

My views are generally these:
3. When it comes to cancer screening
These are roughly my views, and from one you can deduce what I think about Grail, and how I will hold them accountable if they try to deploy without adequate RCT
4. Observational studies, causal inference, the role of randomization, etc.

I am interested in thinking about these issues; this is a rough guide to my thinking...
5. Regulatory approval & payment mechanisms is a major theme of my work, and the book Malignant
6. EBM - I prefer 'rational decision making' as a term, but I am interested in the messy path from clinical trials and observational studies to medical decisions

Have worked in this space for 10 years
7. Science, the process, the people.

I am very interested and invested in working with trainees in my science

Longer thread on that topic here: https://twitter.com/VPrasadMDMPH/status/1341953451710791680?s=20
7 cont. I am interested in thinking about publishing, funding, promotion, tenure, and the nature of science itself

I had some fun recently with this thread on that topic https://twitter.com/VPrasadMDMPH/status/1343243517812826112?s=20
8. Argument. I am very interested in proper argument
& I am pro-debate

The biggest errors I see on this website are ad-hominem and not accurately characterizing your opponents position (the latter is omnipresent)
8. cont. I support retraction, but not 3rd party deletion

I am not comfortable with outsourcing scientific debates to the adjudication of employees of tech companies

I am critical of mob behavior, detailed below
I'm fascinated by the fair way to represent science. We want to show the scientific method and not mislead folsk that science is a set of facts.

Anecdotes are powerful, but I prefer to change minds with data, so I struggle with anecdotes in media coverage of science.
10. Social media and the academy
Although I continue to prefer journals for many types of projects, I am fascinated by social media and how it intersects with scholarship & the academy

Probably the best thing I do is this podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/plenary-session/id1429998903?mt=2
11. Like everyone on earth, I have been interested in COVID

This thread is everything I have written or said on the topic in long form. There are many subtopics that I have not reached a firm conclusion on and you will not find me commenting https://twitter.com/VPrasadMDMPH/status/1332349435997679622?s=20
