wack things i learned about climate change in 2020 :(

♻️1. Recycling is a scam perpetuated by Big Oil

Recycling was always meant to be a diversion tool. Less than 10% of plastics get recycled!

"Selling recycling sold plastic, even if it wasn't true." - Oil exec via @NPR
🥑 2. If food waste was a country, it'd be the 3rd largest GHG emitter.

I knew that food waste was a prob but I didn't know it was that big. I also didn't know we might run out of farmable land by 2050.

eliminating food waste is my #1 tip for you bc you have control + impact!
🏠3. In developed countries, ~half of food waste comes from the household.

i'm telling you this is actually a place you can make a difference!! plus check out http://bit.ly/zerowastemealplans @endsandstems if you need help meal planning w/ ingredients in your fridge
🐄 4. The 10 foods with the highest impacts on the environment were ALL cuts of beef.

listen if veganism isn't for you, at least cut out beef - maybe start by cutting out ONE beef meal and go from there! baby steps!

you could also start w/ pasture-raised beef!
🌓 5. Race has a stronger effect on exposure to pollutants than poverty.

when zoning laws were written, toxic industry was SPECIFICALLY zoned in Black neighborhoods (incl near schools!) and not white ones. it's not a random accident
