I've said it before and I'll say it again but the reason scum villain is so hated as a novel is people don't know how to deal with victims of trauma who are anything other than perfectly sympathetic
luo binghe was never truly the white lotus sqq expected: the cynicism, clinginess, self-doubt, & anger were with him from the beginning
he starved on the streets, lost his mother, was tortured for years, & the one man he trusted threw him into hell
of course he came out unstable

of course he came out unstable
but binghe had the bad luck to have the kinds of problems– anxious attachment style, anger control, mood swings, control issues– that aren't poetic or nobly tragic
the kind of issues that people use to dismiss someone's personhood
the kind that get a person labeled dangerous

it's not a coincidence that in a novel full of wronged, damaged people who still harm others, the most clear-cut innocent– qiu haitang, sobbing about the lost love who treacherously massacred her family– was revealed to be lying through her teeth as part of a smear campaign
binghe's rage and confusion and self-harm– remember, he murdered figures in his dreamscape to punish himself for losing sqq– is all understandable
I'm not saying it would be fine if he did destroy the world bc he was sad
but the reason he felt he had to resort to it makes sense

luo binghe's sect repudiated him
his father and cousin refused to accept him
the entire cultivation world called his mother a slut and said it would be better if he'd never been born
he had no place among humans or demons
and shen qingqiu always had a new reason to leave him

luo binghe learned that the world didn't care if he lived or died, the sects saw him as an abomination, and sqq would never stay with him if given a choice
and in a moment of despair with his mind broken by a) evil sword and b) attacking his own brain, he applied that knowledge

does this mean you can excuse binghe's crimes?
well, gee
it's almost like the question of whether a person can be wholly wicked or innocent, and whether someone's harmful actions can be excused by their intentions or trauma, is the core theme of the novel https://twitter.com/adspexi/status/1318425244013613057
