but binghe had the bad luck to have the kinds of problems– anxious attachment style, anger control, mood swings, control issues– that aren't poetic or nobly tragic

it's not a coincidence that in a novel full of wronged, damaged people who still harm others, the most clear-cut innocent– qiu haitang, sobbing about the lost love who treacherously massacred her family– was revealed to be lying through her teeth as part of a smear campaign
binghe's rage and confusion and self-harm– remember, he murdered figures in his dreamscape to punish himself for losing sqq– is all understandable
I'm not saying it would be fine if he did destroy the world bc he was sad
