Gyms #level5

I'm really uneasy with the "keep gyms open for mental health" line. I'm a physio, borderline exercise addict & also someone who's been to the brink during a dark period in life.
Trust me, I'm as big an advocate of exercise for positive mental health as anyone.(1/3)
But here's the reality. When I was truly struggling, a gym being open or not wasn't going to be the thing to stop me pulling the plug on myself.

Yes gyms are an absolutely amazing thing for people's mental health, people like myself who love going. But we're not everyone. (2/3)
Clothes shops are good for some people's mental health, along with recording studios, bookshops. The list goes on. Using such an emotive argument to keep gyms open is somewhat insensitive & displays a lack of understanding of both disease transmission & mental health issues.(3/3)
