Thread on Indian secularism, et al.

1) Indian version of secularism or Gandhi's Sarvadharma Sambhav is not secularism at all. India's secularism implies that all religion are equal and they should peacefully coexist.
2) At a theoretical level, this may sound fine, but at an operational level if it is applied as in governing a state, it would contradict the basic premise of secularism. This logic does not take into account that all religions are NOT equal,
3) particularly Islam & Christianity vis-a-vis Indic religions. In a truly secular state government should be proactive enough to control the dominant or the hegemonistic religions. That never happened in India.
4) Indian state has instead passed off Hindu faith as Indian-ness (Bhartiyata) whenever it could. The concept of Sarvadharma Sambhav itself has its origin in Hindu tradition. Gandhi's idea was to secularize India in a way that it becomes Hindu.
5) Only Gandhi/Congress had the power to appropriate Khilafat Movement into his idea of Swaraj. Khilafat - a pan Islamist movement is not communal because it helped Congress. If not, even La Ilaha Ilallah would be communal.
6) Muslims would never be able to situate themselves in Sarvadharma Sambhav unless Brahmins of Congress approve of it. Congress would approve of it only when Muslim leaves their Muslim identity at home. #MuslimLiveMatter
