I usually take a break & enjoy the NFL playoffs. But start to evaluate each of your teams, what you did right, but also, what do you need to improve on? We will be covering New Year's Resolutions for dynasty on the @smashaccept pod tonight, which is aimed to help you with this!
The offseason for dynasty is full of fun events and news. We will start to get news on what players declare for the draft. I like to start building an initial ranking for the '21 draft. Start listening to the top college and devy experts out there. Consider both film + analytics.
There are some amazing follows on Twitter to help you work through college player evaluation in the offseason. Some of my favorites are @RayGQue, @TheFF_Educator, @MattWaldman, @DLFootball, @_NickWhalen. Do yourself a favor and check out their work!
NFL Combine : The Combine is when things really pick up, scheduled for Mar 7-11. This is when can start comparing these players, and combine their combine results with the film and analytics work. I recommend building your own rankings pre-NFL draft ranking based on TALENT.
Here are my personal top 12 in SF before doing any real homework.
1.T. Lawrence (Clem)
2.C. Fields (OSU)
3.N. Harris (Ala)

Free Agency: The last day for RFA signings is Apr 23, right before the NFL draft. Here are some of the top FAs-who who will move on?
QB-Dak, Rivers, Trubisky, Cam
RB-A.Jones, K.Drake, C.Carson, Fournette, Gurley
WR-A-Rob, Godwin, Kenny G, W.Fuller, C.Davis, JuJu
TE-Henry, Jonnu

WR-A-Rob, Godwin, Kenny G, W.Fuller, C.Davis, JuJu
TE-Henry, Jonnu
Team Landing Spots: This will be highly debated. Where are the best spots for each position for rookies drafted and FAs who move teams? Here are some top spots IMO:
RB- MIA, PIT, SF, ARI?
WR- HOU, GB, LAC
QB- Teams that need a QB1-JAX, CHI, NYJ, CAR, WAS, IND
Watson's new WR1?

Mock Drafts: One of the most entertaining parts of the offseason is predicting the NFL draft, which no one does very well. We will see a ton of pre-NFL draft rookie mocks. My favorite thing to do is run a mock NFL draft, and then mock the rookie draft based on landing spots.
NFL Draft: The peak moment of the offseason is the draft itself, one of my favorite days of the year. It will be Apr 29-May 1 in Cleveland. Track how the NFL draft impacts your dynasty teams. Which top prospects land in the best spots? What players get replaced? So much fun.
If you've already started to rank players based on talent, you can now make adjustments based on landing spots. One tip: Talent > landing spot for me. EX: CEH lands in KC and people flip out. He was often drafted ahead of Taylor, Swift, Dobbins, but look now where he is ranked..
Landing spots are obviously important, but IMO talent eventually wins out. Look at Swift, or Justin Jefferson, or even Jalen Hurts. Coaches/systems change, older players move on. Your pre-draft rankings are really important for this reason.
Following the NFL draft we start to see a lot of dynasty rookie drafts. The real ballers often suggest doing rookie drafts earlier, but I prefer to know the landing spots. Tip: Try and rank the new rookie class vs. the previous class to help assess value. Burrow or Lawrence?
The final phase of the offseason is Minicamps and OTAs- remember those? Follow team beat writers and soak up as much info as you can. Try and filter out coach speak and click bait, and find the real news. That helped savvy owners get guys like James Robinson, and Antonio Gibson
Hope you enjoyed the thread. This is where the dynasty season really starts! Let me know how I can help you throughout, it's always fun to mix it up on Twitter. We will be covering a lot of these topics on the @smashaccept pod I co-host with @Dynasty_DadFF & @FFA_Meng. Have fun!
