end of year thread about #schoolstreets #stradescolastiche, something I did in 2020 (Brunswick Primary, Hove) and am v proud about.....first, they are great, it is wonderful to see people taking and enjoying the space in all weathers, but they do not come without challenges (1/8)
the first challenge is transporting some heavy equipment across a large site, roadsigns, barriers, 25kg (now wet and 30ish) sandbags, A-boards...(2/8)
and parking issues have certainly reduced, but some have moved a bit up along the road, next commitment is to further protect the neighbours' driveways....(3/8)
however, a great team of volunteers (we are a term of about 20 ppl) makes things easy enough, and I have met wonderful people, and there is always time for a nice chat...(4/8)
also, we have been interacting with the whole community beyond the school, with neighbours, council officials, delivery drivers, parking wardens, police officers....it has really been a joint effort, so thanks again to everyone involved (5/8) https://twitter.com/AlbertoMZanni1/status/1331189267213799425
interactions with drivers have been smooth 99% of times, residents appreciate the project, delivery drivers are happy to drive at walking pace, organising volunteers has not been easy, but quite rewarding, here are some preliminary results (6/8)
and the great recent news is that our #schoolstreet should continue well beyond the trial period, and some permanent infrastructure should come before the end of March, that is certainly going to make things easier, and enlarge the possible pool of volunteers....(7/8)
end of this, ccing @KatyCycles @ibikebrighton @lucullus @deekinstow @MoreOllie @BATBrighton @NotInventedHere @Bricycles and others....
