I’m not eloquent enough to phrase this properly but can we stop the whataboutery?! Gyms, golf, restaurants and so on and just accept that every single contact counts? Just cos you’ve decided it makes no sense doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make sense to experts in disease control?
And instead of this, put our energy into forcing government to properly support businesses that have to shut, and once and for all take a holistic approach to the health of their nation by funding services appropriately.
What part of under resourced hospitals can’t properly deliver ALL services due to rise in Covid numbers are we choosing to not get?! Sniping at each other, at experts who are working 24/7 trying to keep people alive and at others lets years of underinvestment off the hook.
And this crap of ‘people are confused by the mixed messaging.’ People were never confused. People chose to be confused as it suited what they wanted to do (remember the craic about travel abroad during the summer?!)
Most of us got the message from day one.
While we’re all squabbling we’re undermining every healthcare worker who will treat us no matter the day, no matter the patient. Even after they begged us to just cut our contacts. We don’t seem to care too much about their mental health. We just like to generally shout about it.
Where’s the essential outrage due to lack of psychiatrists? Or that people rely on fundraising for suicide charities? Or that the elderly need to take a bus to Belfast for cataract surgery? Or for the kids who go to school hungry? Or indeed any child in an overcrowded classroom?
No sure it’s easier to sit at home, tapping on a phone telling the world ‘mental health is killing more than Covid’ wilfully undermining the efforts of thousands who are doing their best every single day.
