I have some comments about the Rod Philips scandal.

In the end, tacitly accepting this behaviour (Oosterhoff/Hillier) will simply lengthen the time of the pandemic, and encourage further civil unrest and disobedience.
2/14

This means that people who have been following the rules and who have actually made sacrifices for the common good, (instead of simply espousing that others should do so while making premeditated plans and then deceptively covering up tracks on social media) get PUNISHED.
3/14

I am, in essence, punished for making good choices and by following societal rules. Is this fair? Nope. It is simply not. It is wrong and morally bankrupt to cover these actions up and claim error and then to simply apologize. It's an unacceptable response.

Rod Phillips ran for office of his own volition. It's a leadership position. Inherent in this, are expectations that elected leaders behave in a manner that emulate our mutually agreed upon principles of democracy.
5/14

Character traits such as: honesty, integrity, empathy, respect, responsibility are all shared democratic principles broken by Mr. Phillips. As an elected official in a democracy he has been entrusted with emulating these principles.
6/14

Instead, he has shat on them by attempting to deceive in a manner that appears to be premeditated. Seems to me to be the opposite of a leader we want in Ontario.
7/14

The Ontario Education Act as well as the Standards of Practice for Ontario Certified Teachers all mention the principles of democracy and how it is the responsibility of those working in Education to model democratic principles and to uphold them.
8/14

These documents come from governments, of which Mr. Phillips is currently a senior cabinet member. Are these standards of behaviour not part of their job description too? Are we not to expect them to model these traits through their actions, or are they 'above the law'?
9/14

He must immediately resign or be removed from office.
10/14

I came to this conclusion by using principles about character traits that I would implement teaching a Primary/Junior grade classroom in Ontario. This is basic stuff here, Doug Ford and company.
11/14

Basic character traits that your government seemingly does not possess and now goes out of its way to cover up on a daily basis: values, character and morals. You are running a deficit in these areas, aren't you, FordNation?
12/14

This government is completely morally bankrupt at this point. Their actions on a daily basis elucidate that the government is clearly not acting in the best interest of the constituents that they were entrusted to serve through the democratic process of election.
13/14

I'd offer more common sense, basic advice, but as a teacher, my thoughts, and opinions on anything are either: ignored by your government, vilified, twisted into half-truths or demonized.
14/14

But, you wouldn't want the HONEST TRUTH from your scapegoat, would you? Thanks for reading!
