(1) Since these are the last days of 2020 I've been reflecting a lot. First of all, I came to the important inside that I don't like twitter. Too many distractions, too much "being in my bubble", too much mental garbage of too many people in my feed. But: I love football twitter!
(2) I started to like the football twitter community since I discovered it in March 2020 (thanks to @chribecke!). I love to see how many open minded people share their thoughts and insights. This goes with my way of thinking: Working WITH each other, not against.
(3) I want to thank a few people for inspiring me, for keeping me open-minded by discussing different opinions and for support in different ways: @Lahmsteiger, @ReneMaric, @Gegenpressing91, @frido03, @vorstopper94, @YannikBogi, @idealisNik, @AlexAlxalix, @LokLaurin2003, @hahn97_t
(4) I want to thank a few people for inspiring me, for keeping me open-minded by discussing different opinions and for support in different ways II: @BlaineMcKenna77, @MaxBergmnn, @brandl_lukas, @lucabecker_, @moritzkossmann1 and last but not least @chribecke. Just to name a few.
(5) Besides I decided to write some of my tweets in english to improve my language skills. They are not even close to perfect, so I hope you don't mind if you find any language mistakes. Feel free to correct my grammar or spelling.
(6) What did I think about besides twitter itself and changing the language? Mostly I used the football free time during the corona break reflecting on my way of coaching.
(7) I came to the understanding, that communication is not what I send but what is being received by the players. I always tell them things like "there's room for mistakes", "make your own decisions", "you can talk to me" - but the question is: Do they feel it?
(8) Being honest to myself I started to see one of my biggest mistakes. What I tell the players and how I act is often incongruent. Since we all know that body language and voice make about 90 % of the effect of a conversation, I'm going to put more emphasis on these points.
(9) I want to improve in paying attention to the players. This includes:
- Listening with the intend to understand, not with the intend to answer.
- No multitasking (being really there - in a conversation, in coaching - not only physically but with my mind)
(10)
- Giving space for participation (Celeste Headlee said in a TED Talk I really like: "If you want to state your opinion without any opportunity for response or argument or pushback - write a blog")
- Setting myself aside to learn from the players
(11)
- Showing interest in the players thoughts and feelings by using questions like "How did you feel in that situation" oder "What did you think in that situation" (goes with using open-ended questions)
(12)
- Setting my ego aside. Coaching is never about the coach, never about me. I don't have to show anyone how good I am, the focus has to be on the players as individuals.
(13) I'm really looking forward to being on the pitch again and working with the players and on myself.
(14) Thanks for reading!
