The University of Colorado - Colorado Springs, or @UCCS, is hiring a new professor of special education. They do not want any disabled people applying for this job. "Must lift 20 pounds," they say. /1

2) The legality of this clause is debatable. I have an EEOC admin on record (from a few years ago) saying that you can't say something is a requirement unless it's actually a requirement. Lifting things is not an actual requirement.
3) But @UCCS HR uses this as a way to defend against worker's comp claims. It's widespread in academia and in tech, though curiously many non-special ed prof jobs at UCCS do not seem to have this clause (that I could see).
4) UCCS should remove the clause and issue a system-wide analysis of their hiring practices. We'll return to this subject on 1/4 when they re-open after the holidays.
