So UK gov is again shutting businesses & places of education at great social and economic costs, and yet still provides no proper support for people to self-isolate or targeted support for key workers.

And still no prominent politicians/journalists hold them to account on this.
The government has long said that closing schools and businesses is a last resort.

But is it really?

It seems to me that their real last resort is actioning public health policies in a public health crisis which might go against their conservative ideologies...
Some examples here of the types of support SAGE and iSAGE have recommended and the reason why such support is important and would be highly likely to have significant effects on transmission. https://twitter.com/ScienceShared/status/1343652785628311552?s=20
And here from @jackiecassell on the importance of support for key workers and why this will reduce transmission also (and, crucially, has much less costs and harms than closing schools and businesses!). https://twitter.com/jackiecassell/status/1343125059616071681?s=20
And here an excellent thread and paper by @mugecevik on the importance of targeting strategies based on transmission dynamics and vulnerable demographics. https://twitter.com/mugecevik/status/1308080103407132673?s=20
Let's get #SupportIsolation trending.
And here some policy suggestions which would mitigate some of the harmful effects of school closures on women (harms include inadequate employment/childcare support and greater female financial insecurity/unemployment due to social norms + gender pay gap) https://twitter.com/clarewenham/status/1344236709198901248?s=20
What support looks like, why it is important for disadvantaged communities, and how it can not only improve self-isolation rates, but also help identify additional contacts and cases to control transmission. https://twitter.com/ScienceShared/status/1344368967113203715?s=20
