One thing I've learnt is that approaching people and asking them to mentor you or be your mentor doesn't work. You're most likely going to get a "I'm not available to take on any new mentees at the moment" response.

There's a thread Lade did on this a while ago. Let me find it.
She's private so I can't post the link to the thread but I took a screenshot. This is how I'd advise anyone to dm people they look up to.
A lot of the time, people don't actually know what they want when they ask someone to mentor them. It's like they expect the person to come up with an entire curriculum or something and do the work for them (at least, this is what it was for me when I first started out).
I get a lot of "Can you mentor me?" dms and I turn them down by saying, "I can't take on any mentees at the moment but my dms are open whenever you have a question or need help or want a review."

Which is essentially what some people even mean when they say they want mentorship.
Anyhow, the point of these tweets is don't dm people asking them to mentor you. You'll rarely get a favourable response. Decide what you want to learn and be specific with your questions.
Also posting this so that when I turn down the mentorship requests in my dms and Curious Cat, you guys can at least understand why
