This is a boring tweet but 2020, the year of pivots, is the year I learned to value project management as a critical skill to brick to work & a foundational tool for equity and justice work. 1/
I see a lot of orgs working toward ‘DEIJ’ in the abstract which is not inherently bad, but for whatever reason the work escapes the project management process so initiatives get abandoned, people burn out, work is done in silos 2/
Achieving equity and justice is a great goal, but without goalposts is imho too broad. People aren’t gonna be excited about running a race if there’s no clue where the track is or how long they have to go for. 3/
The traditional tools for project management are useful starts. I like @HarvardBiz books. But this is emotional and personal work so I also turned to @adriennemaree Emergent Strategies, @MindaHarts The Memo, @ResmaaMenakem My Grandmother’s Hands for ex for more learning 4/
No matter what tools you use this work is hard and full of failure. Don’t be scared! We’re working against a culture of perfection. But developing PM skills and building in time, $ and objectives for DEIJ work into project processes is SO important! /5
